William ‘Bill’ C. Morgan, owner and publisher of the The Hughes County Times in Wetumka and The Weleetkan in Weleetka, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012. He was 81.
Services are scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at the Wetumka First Christian Church, 123 E Broadway, Wetumka, Okla. Burial will follow at Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home, Wetumka, Okla., (405) 452-3231.
Morgan's journalism career spanned 62 years, including stints at Oklahoma A&M University (OSU) and as a regional editor for the Pacific Stars and Stripes in Tokyo.
After working at the Henryetta Daily Free-Lance, Morgan bought the Wetumka Gazette in 1957, renaming it The Hughes County Times. He also published The Calvin Chronicle and Oklahoma Peanut for several years and, later, The Weleetkan.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughter Julie Morgan of Wetumka, and son and daughter-in-law Andy and Chris Morgan of Edmond, Okla.
