Larry Wade, longtime publisher of the Elk City Daily News, died Sunday, March 6, 2011. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Pioneer Center at 1221 N. Pioneer in Elk City, Okla.
Larry Wade had been associated with the Daily News since joining the staff as a cub reporter at age 13. He became co-publisher with his father, Paul R. Wade, in 1966, and was named publisher after his father died in 1972.
Wade served as president of the Oklahoma Press Association in 1983, as president of the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation in 1999, and was serving on the ONF Board of Trustees at the time of his death. He was the recipient of the OPA's H. Milt Phillips Award in 1995.
In Elk City, he served as mayor and city commissioner, president of the Chamber of Commerce, the United Fund, the Kiwanis club and United Fund Board.
Wade graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1961 with a degree in journalism.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth.
