Newspaper: CNHI/McAlester News-Capital
Job Description: Reporting position in a great newsroom
The McAlester News-Capital is accepting applications for a general assignment reporter for its award-winning newsroom in southeast Oklahoma.
The News-Capital is a top-notch newspaper and a 2016 recipient of one of journalism’s highest honors: the Sigma Delta Chi award for public service journalism. We are also a great place to work: our newsroom is positive, constructive and supportive. It is a great place for journalists.
The general assignment position constitutes a rare opening on our newsroom reporting staff. We have turned away from traditional beat structures in favor of the 'everyone is a general assignment reporter' approach. We are seeking a journalist with a diverse set of coverage skills. One day you might be covering the oil field sector. The next day, economic development. The day after that? Cops and courts followed by a heart-warming feature.
It is a general assignment position in every sense of the word.
This reporter will also need to be comfortable on investigative projects, asking tough questions and tackling the stories that are difficult but which, over the long haul, make a difference in our community.
The reporter must be skilled in digital journalism and social media. We prefer a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and prior newsroom work experience but applicants with related educational backgrounds or work experiences will be considered.
If you are talented, a hard worker and believe journalism is your chance to make the world a better place, then we want to hear from you.
