City:  Oklahoma City
Newspaper:  The Journal Record
Salary:  $30,000-$40,000
Job Description:  If you can find the people stories behind the balance sheets we'd like to talk to you. The Journal Record, a daily (M-F), statewide business paper has an opening in our Oklahoma City office to cover two critical beats: energy and commercial real estate. If your idea of a business story is a re-written press release, please don't apply. If you know how to get out from behind your desk with a notebook in your hand and find the great stories no one else is telling, please send your resume and clips ASAP. The right candidate will also be experienced in (or open to learning) some multimedia reporting skills.
We value quality writing and reporting and were recently named the state's best daily paper in our division of the OPA Better Newspaper Contest for the fourth consecutive year.
The Journal Record is part of The Dolan Company (NYSE:DM) and offers a 401(k) along with all the usual big-company benefits. We are in a city with a low cost of living and moderate weather. Our downtown office is walking distance from the Bricktown entertainment district, the Museum of Art, botanical gardens, symphony hall, three major sports venues and rowing center that is also an Olympic training site for kayaking and canoeing. Soon, we will also be within a few blocks of a new 70-acre downtown park, too.
