NEWSPAPER: Guymon Daily Herald
DESCRIPTION: Do you have the creativity and self-discipline to develop story ideas daily from various city, civic, school, and committee meetings, community calendars, and maybe even a flyer in a store? Can you take a news release and find the real story in it, and go to the phone for quotes? At the Guymon Daily Herald, a six day daily newspaper which won 6 awards in this year's Oklahoma Press Association contest, our motto is "Local, Local, Local." Community journalism is the heart of our business, and being the only daily in the entire region there's plenty to cover. We are focused on hard news, with local features and columns to supplement our pages. Great photography is also a big part of our newspaper's success. If you have experience in these areas, and a desire to be part of a team which will win more awards next year, we want to hear from you. We are located in the middle of the Panhandle, in a small city which loves to make the news. Experience with page layout and design is a bonus, must be willing to learn. The ideal candidate will be community minded and have experience in writing, photography and layout, with the ability to write two articles a day and one column per week. Experience in producing video will also be helpful, as we use clips for our website. We are willing to train those who have strong skills in English, photography and/or public relations. Salary is dependent upon experience, benefits available. It is a full-time reporter position, Monday through Friday with some weekends and nights, in which you will be responsible for taking comp. time during the week to keep a 40-hour-week maximum.
