The Norman (Okla.) Transcript seeks an experienced managing editor to lead its award-winning newsroom in a community of more than 100,000 residents that is home to the University of Oklahoma.
We need a passionate editor who believes local news – in print and online – is the fiber of a community. We need the energy of someone who insists on covering all parts of the community and keeping our audience informed 24/7.
Our managing editor must be a skilled journalist and editor who can develop and present local content for print and digital platforms. He or she must understand the importance of creating the best multi-media outlet of interesting, insightful and authoritative local information. A solid grasp of journalism ethics, libel and public record laws are required.
Our managing editor must embrace the fact that today’s newsroom operates around the clock, with frequent website and social media updates. Applicants should have a newspaper management background that includes working with other departments to maximize advertising and circulation opportunities. Key attributes include leadership, effective communication, the ability to train and the willingness to become part of an active community.
The Norman Transcript is an 11,000 circulation, seven-day newspaper in central Oklahoma.
Twenty miles south of Oklahoma City, Norman is a progressive, affordable community. Its public schools are among the best in Oklahoma. Norman boasts a vibrant economy and a variety of cultural opportunities. It is also home to the National Weather Center.
