Fort Stockton, Texas
Fort Stockton Pioneer
The Fort Stockton Pioneer is seeking a managing editor who can be a leader in both the newsroom and in the community. The Pioneer is an award-winning weekly newspaper in Pecos County, halfway between El Paso and San Antonio on I-10, with a small staff of four. We cover it all – the oil and gas industry, county and city government, schools, sports, cops and courts, civic events and community happenings. If you've got a passion for producing community journalism at its finest, we want to talk to you. The requirements for this position are simple. We want someone with strong news judgment and an ability to work with employees of various degrees of experience. We want someone who can turn a dull press release into a journalistic gem; someone who is well versed in AP style; someone comfortable with interviewing everyone from the governor to the kindergarten class president; and someone handy with a camera or not afraid to learn. Having some experience with sports reporting is especially helpful! The person we hire will also be responsible for working with the publisher in planning special sections, and developing ideas into stories. The successful applicant will directly be responsible for the editorial product – from planning to production - as well as managing our full time reporter and sports stringer. If you're interested in this position, please respond to this ad before someone else does. The company offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for advancement. You are eligible for health benefits, as well as vacation and sick/personal leave, after a probationary period. We are part of Granite Publications, a group that prefers to recruit from within and that means your job with us could be the first step toward the future you've always wanted.
