June 5, 2013 Honor Flight

OPA Executive Vice President Mark Thomas accompanied the veterans on the June 5, 2013, Honor Flight. Following is an article and photo by Thomas. Also provided is a list in Excel format that contains the names of all 83 veterans on the flight as well as what city they are from.

Please look over the list to see if a veteran from your community was on this Honor Flight trip. Honor Flight provides veterans with photos taken on their visit to the memorials. You may want to contact veterans from your community for a feature story and photo.

    There isn’t anything special when 83 grey-headed, old men and women get together.
    They have names familiar to that generation, like Clarence, Carl, Elmer, Delmar, Farris, Eual, Herman, Howard, Owen, Grady and Vern.
    Some come from big cities like OKC, Tulsa, Moore, Enid and Ada. Others are from smaller towns such as Addington, Jay, Beaver, Perkins, Mulhall, Meeker, Roland and Roff.

Cutline: The National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., pays tribute to America’s WWII generation. The memorial features 56 granite pillars that represent each state and territory and the District of Columbia adorned with an oak and bronze wreath and inscribed with its name.
