    Job Description:  The board of Oklahoma Watch is seeking an executive editor to steer the 2-year-old organization’s editorial and revenue development missions. Oklahoma Watch is the state’s only nonprofit public-affairs news operation dedicated to the production and delivery of watchdog journalism across a full range of distribution platforms. Its primary focus areas include poverty, education, corrections, health care and public finance. 
         The ideal candidate will have strong journalism credentials, demonstrated leadership skills, prior management experience, entrepreneurial drive, energy and enthusiasm. The executive editor’s skill set should include the ability to mentor and edit the works of other journalists, previous experience with multimedia news presentation, the ability to collaborate with organizational stakeholders, and a familiarity with fundraising, audience development and community engagement. An appreciation of Oklahoma's past and present cultural and political climate is highly desirable.
         The executive editor will oversee a small team of reporters, data specialists, website personnel, stakeholder liaisons and financial support staff whose collective responsibility is to create and distribute original accountability journalism across a variety of traditional and nontraditional media within the state.
         The executive editor will seek to sustain and increase revenue streams to ensure Oklahoma Watch's growth. The executive editor will be charged with building editorial and financial relationships while maintaining Oklahoma Watch's editorial independence. Ongoing responsibilities include conceiving, commissioning and publishing new multiplatform content, keeping current on digital and social media trends; serving as an incubator for innovative news-related public-policy projects, and collaborating with institutions of journalism education.
         During the first year, the executive editor should expect to:
         -- assemble a central team of paid staff and freelance contributors.
         -- oversee eight or more groundbreaking, data-driven investigations.
         -- draft a three-to-five-year strategic plan.
         -- generate detailed forecasts, assessments and planning priorities.
         -- identify new and sustainable revenue streams.
         -- develop an audience-focused content plan and distribution model.
         -- devise marketing plans, collaborative programs and community engagement initiatives.
         -- develop a more robust, active website.
         The executive editor position is open immediately. Initially, the executive editor will work with the current interim editor to learn Oklahoma Watch's history and organizational infrastructure, then rapidly assume full duties.
         Started in 2010, Oklahoma Watch is a nonprofit, investigative and in-depth reporting team that produces original content and collaborates with other news organizations to produce journalism that makes a difference in the lives of Oklahomans. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading a team of sales professionals at our publications in Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri to maximize revenue growth, increase market share and provide value to current and prospective customers.
