Job Description:  Oklahoma Gazette, the state’s largest independently owned news publication, is seeking talented and motivated freelance reporters.
We’re seeking experienced freelance reporters with a passion for investigative and enterprise news, community journalism, food and drink and arts and entertainment reporting and knowledge of the greater Oklahoma City metro area.
Founded in 1979, the Gazette is metro Oklahoma City’s fiercely local arts and entertainment authority. The Gazette earned Society of Professional Journalists Oklahoma Professional Chapter’s 2017 “Best of the Best” award in the large market category, which includes news publications with circulation over 25,000.
FREELANCE OPPORTUNITIES:
• Food and drink features, trend stories, reviews, human interest features
• Craft beer scene and business development
• News features and human-interest news and life features
• Performing and visual arts reporting
• Comedy and music
• General assignment news
• Enterprise reporting
• Investigative reporting
• City hall/city government
• Political reporting

FREELANCE SKILLS:
• Experienced in sourcing and interviewing
• Meets or beats deadlines
• Passion for accuracy and thoroughness
• Generating story ideas and photo assignments
• Generate story visualizations/photo follow-through
• Collaborate with editors and reporters
• Proficient in AP and local style
• Journalism degree or equivalent experience
• At least two to five years experience in news reporting and deadline management or equivalent
• Knowledgable of greater Oklahoma City metro area, its demographics and interests
