FOI-Oklahoma sets first in ‘Open Conversations’ speaker series with reporter Chase Cook on Sept. 28

FOI-Oklahoma will host its first speaker in a new series with Chase Cook, a University of Oklahoma graduate whose tweet became a rallying cry for many in the news industry after a shooting in his newsroom.

“I can tell you this: We are putting out a damn paper tomorrow,” he tweeted in the aftermath of the June shooting that killed five at the Capital Gazette in Annapolis, Maryland. That tweet ended up on many newspapers’ mastheads on July 12 as a salute to those who lost their lives.

“Open Conversations … with Chase Cook” dinner is set for 7-9 p.m. Sept. 28 in Studio D of Gaylord Hall at OU’s campus in Norman. The event is the first in a series of lectures sponsored by FOI-Oklahoma, whose mission is to promote open and transparent government in Oklahoma.

Cost is $50 for general tickets and $35 for student tickets. Tickets can be purchased at foioklahoma.org. Sponsor tables are available for $500 and can be purchased by sending emails to FOI-Oklahoma Executive Director Andy Moore, director@foioklahoma.org.
