You know those stories that grab you right from the first line? The ones that give you so much detail you can see or hear or smell what’s happening? Those kinds of stories are everywhere, if you just take a minute to look or listen. But they’re tough to write. You’ve got to get inside the story and give the reader more than the facts. Sure, facts are important, no doubt about it. But so are the details. The way the wind caught the corner of the flag as they carried the casket to its final resting place. The soft smell of wheat after a summer rain. The buzz of needles at the local tattoo shop. They’re stories readers get – they get it so much they often call or send e-mail to tell you they got it,that they relate to it, that they had a similar experience. There’s a lot you can do with a feature story. Come find out how to narrow the focus and draw readers in at the ONF Feature Writing Workshop. Dr. Clark will show you how to take your readers to nirvana – or at least get them closer to it.
