The McAlester News-Capital is seeking an energetic editor for our top newsroom leadership position. The person will be responsible for overseeing a staff of six, with an emphasis on producing local news content for the 6,000-circulation daily, specialty publications and digital platforms.
Applicants need newsroom management experience, versatile journalism skills – writing, editing, design and pagination – and the ability to motivate and coach the staff to produce quality work.
This is a hands-on position requiring initiative, imagination and solid digital and print news judgment. The editor is a key member of the senior management team and thus needs to be able to communicate clearly and make smart decisions.
McAlester is located in the rolling hills of southeastern Oklahoma near Lake McAlester and Lake Eufaula, with its 600 miles of shoreline. It is the seat of government for Pittsburgh County, site of the newsy state penitentiary, and home to the Ardeneum of Oklahoma featuring antiques, collectables and other historic items.
