Tahlequah Daily Press/CNHI
The Tahlequah Daily Press is seeking an energetic, self-motivated go-getter with a love for the newspaper business to do general assignment writing. We are an award-winning, five-day-a-week publication with a seasoned management team. If you're looking to build up your resume at a reputable newspaper, or relocate to one of Oklahoma's most beautiful and economically stable areas, this may be the job for you. We're in the heart of the Cherokee Nation, and home to Oklahoma's fourth-largest university, Northeastern State (NCAA II), and we have a dynamic, eclectic cultural base that offers something for everyone. While there will be a variety of writing opportunities with this job, the crux of it will involve covering meetings of various governmental bodies and possibly courtroom proceedings; features on assignment; and on-the-scene coverage of breaking events, which might include crime, fires, accidents, rallies and community events. We also need someone who's comfortable with computers and digital cameras. Depending on the skills of the chosen candidate, the job may require collecting reports from the police and sheriff's offices and turning them into news stories, and keeping up with charges filed through the district attorney's office. We're looking for an experienced reporter (or one with a journalism degree) – who has a grasp of media law and procedures and Associated Press writing style. Pay commensurate and competitive; good benefits.
