City Editor / Courts & Crime Reporter

City:  Tahlequah
  Tahlequah Daily Press/CNHI
Salary:  negotiable
Job Description:
The TAHLEQUAH DAILY PRESS, based in the beautiful foothills of the Ozarks in Northeastern Oklahoma, is seeking an experienced, energetic reporter to cover our high-profile courts and crime beat, as well as city and county government, plus some weather and disasters (fires, traffic accidents). The Press, a five-day-a-week CNHI publication, is a well-regarded newspaper that has won sweepstakes for the past two years in the Oklahoma Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, along with hundreds of individual and departmental awards over the past several years from OPA, the Associated Press, and national competitions. We have one of the most aggressive social media programs in the state, with thousands of followers, plus a stable circulation base. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a team player, with at least a few years of experience covering “hard news,” and/or a journalism degree with emphasis in that arena. We’re looking for a dedicated, inquisitive and engaging individual who enjoys mixing it up with elected officials, law enforcement officials and the general public; who can generate informative and interesting copy through often routine meetings and legal documents; who doesn’t mind occasionally odd hours; and who has strong interviewing, research and writing skills. Photography experience is a must, as are digital savvy and an active social media presence. This is a perfect position for an ambitious journalist who’s just starting to get his or her feet wet in the industry, or for a seasoned professional looking for an eclectic yet laid-back quality of life Cherokee County offers. Good benefits; pay commensurate with experience.
