City: Fort Smith, Arkansas
Newspaper: Times Record
Job Description: We are seeking a reporter who understands aggressive coverage of a local business beat, covering large companies and small businesses, the trucking industry and agriculture, who can report on breaking news as well as find compelling enterprise stories affecting businesses and people in our community.
We want a strong storyteller to join our newsroom, someone who is a multi-tasker, a reporter who files daily stories, often two or more each day, and breaks news to the Web while also working on enterprise pieces. The winning candidate also would have photography and videography experience and an understanding of social media to be at the forefront of our evolving newsroom.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. A degree in journalism or a related field is necessary. Editing and writing tests as well as a drug test are required.
The Times Record has covered the news of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma for more than 125 years and is poised to step into the next phase of journalism. We cover several counties in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma with an emphasis on the greater Fort Smith region. We are a Stephens Media-owned newspaper.
Fort Smith is on the Arkansas-Oklahoma border, between the beautiful Ozark Mountains to the north and the Ouachita Mountains to the south. Outdoor recreational activities abound.
Fort Smith is home to the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith and all the cultural amenities a university offers as well as a professional symphony, a ballet company, a regional art museum and several historic sites — including the 19th-century federal courthouse of “Hanging” Judge Isaac Parker, credited with bringing civilization to the old frontier.
