The assistant news editor slot is a full-time, entry-level, salaried management position whose main responsibility is copy editing, news selection and page design, as well as assigning newsroom stories. This position has some variation in hours depending on work flow. A normal work week would be approximately Tues. through Thurs. 3 to 11:30 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 2:30 to 11:30. This time frame includes a half-hour lunch break.
The ideal candidate has at least three-years of newsroom experience, advanced skills in In Design and Photo Shop and an understanding of great customer service and time management. If you can eliminate copy issues, select news items that attract readers, build and move attractive pages on deadline, work well with people and manage your time in a constructive manner you're our dream candidate. Web experience is just icing on the cake.
