The blizzard of February 2011 was the catalyst needed to change the dates of the annual Mid-Winter Convention from February to a warmer month. As several inches of snow blanketed the state, making driving treacherous, many OPA members were asking themselves, "Why do we have the convention in the middle of the winter?" This valid question that was addressed by the OPA board of directors when they met April 14 and 15 in Clinton, Okla., for the annual Board Retreat.
After discussing possible dates for the convention, board members unanimously approved moving to the convention to June. The 2012 convention is now scheduled for June 7-9 at the Reed Center in Midwest City, Okla. The Awards Committee will meet soon to discuss date changes for the Better Newspaper Contest.
