The foundation will award one $500 scholarship to a senior enrolled at the University of Oklahoma. Applicants should be enrolled full-time during the 2008-09 school year in a journalism or equivalent degree program with plans to pursue a newspaper career upon graduation.

Robert H. Breeden received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma in 1929. He was editor and co-publisher of The Cleveland American, a weekly newspaper in Cleveland, Okla., from 1931 to 1962. He served on the Oklahoma Press Association’s board of directors, including a term as the association’s vice president in 1961. He also owned several newspapers in Arkansas. Breeden was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate in 1956 and served as the Senate’s minority leader for two terms. He also led Henry Bellmon’s successful campaign to become Oklahoma’s first Republican governor.  Breeden died on March 25, 2006, in Russellville, Ark.
