The Canadian Record
The Canadian Record seeks a full-time sports writer/general assignment reporter who knows how to handle a camera and lay out the weekly sports section, and who isn’t afraid to cover a monthly school board meeting, deliver newspapers to local newsstands and pitch in to help with all facets of news coverage in this small but progressive town in the northeastern Texas Panhandle.
Chief responsibilities involve covering and photographing sports activities in a Class AA school district from elementary school through high school, with special attention to all varsity sports (football, cross country, basketball, track and field, golf and tennis). General reporting responsibilities include some District and County Court proceedings as well as breaking news, i.e., fires, wrecks and severe weather. Reporter also shares responsibility with other staff to cover special events around the community and is encouraged to write feature stories about local events and personalities.
The Record staff is friendly, supportive and hard-working. We are looking for someone who shares our long-standing commitment to and love of quality community journalism. Knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign a plus. Sense of humor a must.
