MEETING AGENDA
FIRST HOUR
AD AGENCIES SOUND OFF:
OPS met with several key Oklahoma-based ad agencies recently. Find out what they said about newspapers, and why we’re loved and hated at the same time.
WHEN RATES COLLIDE:
The most common ad agency complaint is that newspaper rates and OPS rates are different, and “newspapers will always cut their rates.” How can OPS and newspapers solve these rate discrepancy problems? Who does OPS work for; you or the advertiser? Where does the OPS advertising commission go?
SELLING WEB ADVERTISING:
Advertisers are interested in advertising on newspaper web sites. What are the challenges, and how can we maximize our efforts?
POLITICAL ADVERTISING:
Are we mad as hell and not going to take it anymore? What causes political campaign strategists to avoid
newspaper advertising, and what can we do about it?
READERSHIP SURVEY SAYS:
OPS has contracted for a statewide readership survey. Results are not yet known, but we want to discuss why we’re conducting the survey, and what we hope to accomplish with the results.
SECOND HOUR
THE DREADED DNR:
OPS keeps a list of all newspapers that missed ads in recent months; a.k.a. the DNR (Did Not Run) list. We will review the list of advertisers and newspapers, and brainstorm how to eliminate these relationship killers.
DIGITAL TEARSHEETS:
OPS converted from paper to digital tear sheets over a year ago. What are the challenges, and how can you help?
UP, UP AND ARCASEARCH:
See the list of papers that upload pages digitally, and how (and why) your paper should upload pages too.
THE MONTHLY CHAT:
OPS is starting a newsletter to better communicate with every newspaper advertising department. How can we do that most a effectively for you, and what do you need to know? Where do you look for information about newspaper advertising now?
LAST 30 MINUTES
FAIR HOUSING BITES:
Five Oklahoma papers have been sued for Fair Housing violations in their classified advertising area. Are you trained or taking a gamble?
WHEN LEGISLATURES ATTACK:
We fully expect several attempts this coming year to remove legal notices from newspapers, a tax on newspaper circulation, and possibly another attempt to tax advertising. What can you do to get your legislator’s vote?
